SEO Traffic: What is it & What is it for? How do I get it

In this article, we answer the question “What is SEO traffic?”

But we don't just explain the definition and meaning of this term. We also discuss the importance of traffic for SEO and how you can generate more SEO traffic for your business.

As you'll learn below, search engine optimization (SEO) is the most important factor you can focus on to drive organic traffic to your website. That's why it's important to know how to do it right.

What is SEO traffic?💌

Traffic is organic traffic from search engines. SEO traffic relies on search engine optimization methods to drive the most organic traffic to your website by placing it at the top of search engine results pages.

Why is SEO traffic important?💌

Traffic is important because SEO traffic is free organic traffic that increases your website's visibility in search engines. Targeted SEO traffic can be beneficial for any business as it allows you to get more leads, customers, and sales on search engines without having to pay for them.

How to Get SEO Traffic 🌊

1. Choose the right SEO keywords for your traffic

To increment natural traffic, you really want to do watchword research. You can't simply compose new happy on any subject and anticipate that it should direct people to your site.

The fact is that people actively search Google for specific questions about your business that they want answered. For example, my website is dedicated to SEO. The purpose of this article is to ask the question: “What is SEO traffic?”

I decided to choose this keyword for organic SEO traffic for three reasons:

  1. It is directly related to my business.
  2. People actively search for it on Google.
  3. It's not hard to compete on a free keyword to get free traffic.

We hope that you already know what topics interest your potential customers, so we can skip the explanation in point 1 above.

However, you need to know which organic keywords your target users are actively searching for on Google, as described in point 2. It is important to increase organic traffic in search results.

To quickly and easily figure out these phrases, you can search for ideas on Google using the auto-suggest feature that appears in the search engine as you type the words. Check out the image below to see how this strategy worked and helped me come up with the idea for the article you are reading.

What Is SEO Traffic?

Now that you have a better idea of how to find good keywords to target, the next step is to figure out how difficult it is to compete to rank those searches in the top 10 positions on Google.

For this step, you will need access to a keyword research tool like KWFinder by Mangools (try for free). This is one of the few SEO tools I recommend as an affiliate because it's cheap but effective for keyword research.

KWFinder allows you to discover two key metrics to better target your SEO traffic:

  • Keyword Search Volume: The average number of searches for a given query per month.
  • Keyword Difficulty: Estimated difficulty of ranking on the first page of Google for your search query.

An example of what this valuable SEO data looks like can be seen in the image below

In the image above, note that the keyword difficulty appears high. However, after looking at the top-ranking sites, I realized that this is actually not a difficult keyword to compete for.

Only two of the top competitors target the exact keyword I'm writing about on this page. The remaining 10 pages deal with the topic of SEO in general; no SEO traffic.

Note: KWFinder is also a good tool for conducting SEO analysis of existing websites that you want to rank higher in search engines. For more details, see my guide to conducting an SEO analysis of your website.

2. Make content that matches the inquiry purpose

The next step to attracting SEO traffic is to create high-quality content that matches the user's search intent.

In my article about what SERP means in SEO, I explain that three main categories of search queries appear on search engine results pages (SERPs).

  • inquiries: This happens when somebody needs to find out about a point yet doesn't have a particular site or brand as a top priority. They usually type the question into Google. The article you are reading here is a good example of a page that meets the requirements of an information query.
  • Transactional Inquiries: This happens when an individual is pondering buying an item or administration and requirements counsel about the buy. Typically, they type in the generic name of a product or service or search for customer reviews on Google.
  • Navigation Queries: Occurs when a person searches for a specific website, product, or service but does not know the company's direct URL. They usually type the brand name into Google to find the official website.

Understanding these different search goals will help you create content that meets the needs of each type of user.

For example, if your target was a transactional query, you wouldn't want to write content in a question-and-answer format like this. This will not increase your SEO traffic.

Instead, you want to create content that focuses on a specific product or service and explains all the details and purchasing options.

3. Improve Your On-Page SEO 🌊

Now that you know how to conduct keyword research and meet user expectations, the next step to increasing SEO traffic is to improve your on-page SEO.

In my article about writing SEO content, I explain that without proper on-page SEO techniques, your content will not rank as high on Google for the keywords you target.

  • Important for internal use Link SEO

  • Improve popularity ranking
  • Get more traffic with images SEO

5. Use good internal links 🌊

Learn how links on your site reveal relationships between content in my guide to the differences between internal and external links. These interior connections move Search engine optimization worth and significance between pages.

A good internal linking strategy can also improve search engine rankings for a page's target keywords because it improves the topical authority of the content.

Testing by SEO expert Kyle Roof shows that “2-3 internal links equal one external link of the same value.” This way, you can take full advantage of your website's ranking power before you even have to think about building backlinks to the website.

A good starting point for increasing SEO traffic with internal links is to create five contextual links from topically relevant pages that contain your primary target keyword as an exact match phrase in the link text. To avoid over-optimization, add some filler words to two of these internal links so they don't match 100%.

Is traffic good for SEO? 🌟

traffic is good for SEO because the more popular your website is, the better it will rank in search engines. Research shows that websites that generate more traffic have better SEO metrics. Search engines like Google prefer to classify content that people like to visit.

One SEO case study in particular showed a strong correlation between an increase in SEO traffic and an increase in rankings for a highly competitive keyword.

According to CognitiveSEO: “In one day, our blog’s organic search traffic reached 20,000 visits. We saw a truly impressive search ranking increase for what is undoubtedly a very competitive phrase (Google Images), going from position 74 to position 8 in Google search results in just one day!

Although the company cannot 100% confirm that the increased traffic improved its rankings on Google, it said that “receiving links that provide a high volume of referral and click data appears to have an impact on rankings in Search engines."

When improving SEO traffic, you should also keep in mind that websites that get more traffic through referrals from other websites also tend to get more natural backlinks. High-quality backlinks are part of Google's ranking algorithm.

Therefore, traffic is good for SEO in the sense that it increases the visibility of your content, which can lead to better search engine rankings for your target keywords. If you want to learn more about SEO content, check out my SEO content guide.
